6 Give beer to those who are perishing,
wine to those who are in anguish;

7 let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more

Hi, we are THE MUSTY MEN. We are a small group of 5 alcoholics, in the search of a cheap (ideally free), tasty tipple. Inspired by the works of our member, comrade Dave (he of self-sufficientish fame) we thought that rather than spending all our money in the pub, we could try our hand at making our own. My (Hi, i am comrade simon) grandfather used to make Elderflower Wine, and comrade Dickon recently cracked through a case of wine that his dad had made before he was even born, while comrades Richard and Tehs also have similar heritages, so long have we been aware of the possibilites of getting drunk on the cheap. However, we are also aware of the enviromental issues of drinking wine sourced from Australia, beer brewed in Germany and vodka brewed in Russia, so any products that we make, especially those sourced from local produce, will be saving the world at the same time.

We are only using the time, and space that are available to us, we dont have a cellar or even an airing cupboard, so as you will see from our photos, the brewing process just takes place around and about our house as we see fit. Hopefully there will never be a time when there isn’t a barrell full of beer in the toilet, or wine maturing in comrade Dickons’ wardrobe.

And while im not sure the Neolithic peole of Jiahu, who first made alcoholic beverage 9,000 years ago, imagined binge drinking or alcopops, we can only thank them, and raise a glass next time you have a drink.
